The Commonwealth Scholarships and Fellowships Alumni Association of Uganda (CSFAAU) traces its origins to the annual alumni gatherings organized by the British Council Uganda. These events provided a platform for former Commonwealth Scholarship beneficiaries to reconnect and reflect on their shared experiences. At one such meeting, held on December 14, 2014, approximately 50 alumni in attendance collectively resolved to formalize their network by establishing an alumni association. This milestone marked the beginning of a structured effort to harness the collective potential of Commonwealth alumni in Uganda.
A core team of dedicated individuals was formed to lay the foundation for the association. Their efforts culminated in the successful organization of the association’s first Annual General Meeting (AGM) in 2015, where Arthur Niwagaba was elected as the founding Chairman, alongside the first executive team. This leadership team set the tone for the association’s mission to unite alumni and amplify their impact in various sectors of society.
Nearly a decade later, CSFAAU has evolved into a vibrant and growing network of alumni dedicated to driving socio-economic transformation in Uganda. While most activities have historically been concentrated in Kampala, the association aspires to establish regional chapters across the country, ensuring representation and participation in every district where two or more alumni reside. This expansion reflects the association’s commitment to inclusivity and its recognition of the diverse contexts in which its members operate.
CSFAAU’s membership continues to work collaboratively to build a lasting legacy of individuals empowered by the Commonwealth Scholarship. These alumni are united by a shared vision of leveraging their skills, knowledge, and networks to address Uganda’s development challenges and contribute to sustainable progress. Today, CSFAAU stands as a testament to the transformative power of education and international collaboration, embodying the values of the Commonwealth and fostering a spirit of excellence, equity, and innovation.
